“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
Colossians 3:12-14 ESV
Walking in Harmony
Greetings to You today Church,
Today I write to you in reminder of God’s call upon your life, to be conformed to the image of Christ, the Holy One of God (Lk 4:34). As the chosen ones of God, walking in the likeness of Christ, his command is clear for the character traits that you are to put on (Col. 3:12), or better understood, ‘to be clothed with’.
Here within Colossians 3, the Lord describes the character of his people as that of having compassionate or tender hearts; giving forth and showing kindness and patience; being humble, and having a spirit of meekness. He goes further to remind us that we are called to bear up one another. As we give of ourselves in love unto our Father God, we are called to put on a spirit of mercy; sympathizing with the people of God that may be found in distress, suffering with them that suffer, being touched, as Christ is, with a feeling of their sorrows and weaknesses. And as we do, the Lord speaks here with the like message of his teaching us to pray (Mt. 6), ‘forgiving one another as the Lord has forgiven you, (Col. 3:13) so you also must forgive’. And above all, (v14) put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony! The King James translation reads: that as you walk in the character of God’s love, his love ‘is the bond of perfectness’. In context, here we learn that God’s call upon your life proclaims, that as you are conformed to his image, purposing to walk in harmony with all his people, you shall (v15) let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful!
Dear friends, as we enter into this season ahead of ‘Giving Thanks’, let your thankfulness before God for his forgiveness, his grace and never ending mercy; let it be met with the cry before His ear, ‘O God, let me walk today in the beauty of your character. O Father, let me be the testimony that will be an example to my family, my friends and my community. Fill me with Your love, that I might walk in the bond of perfectness. This I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen’.
Today on behalf of my wife, Pastora Marissa, and I, I raise a special word of gratitude unto God for the blessed people of God that He has placed within our lives. As Pastors with Christ’s Chapel, you have stood by us, blessing us with the unifying love of God. In your ever giving example of God’s love this past month, you blessed us mightily for Pastors Appreciation. Your encouragement truly touches and inspires us as we walk faithfully in the work of the Lord. Thank you again for your prayers and love.
