Kept By The Power of God
Christ’s Chapel Weekly Greetings 6/21/20
by Pastor Simeon
Greetings again Church,
Once again, we come to the national holiday of Father’s Day. Families will gather together, make calls, and send cards, all in celebration of the fathers who have touched their lives. And even as we do so, we take this time to honor our father God Almighty. Peter wrote, ‘Blessed be God, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has again renewed us spiritually to a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead’. Thanks be to God our Father, who gives us all hope through His only begotten son, Jesus Christ! Peter went on to write (1Peter 1:5-7):
…you are kept by the power of God through faith for the life eternal which is ready to be revealed at the last time.Wherein you will rejoice for ever, though at present you are sorrowful for a while, though diverse trials which have come upon you, So that the proof of your faith, being much more precious than refined gold which has been purified by fire, may be made manifest for the glory and honor and praise at the appearing of Jesus Christ.
The apostle Peter here is reminding you and I today that though there may come upon you, the temptations, afflictions, persecutions or trials of life, some of which may bring sorrow, or make one heavy with sorrow. But as you hold on to your faith in your Father God, He shall keep you by His power. What a wonderful promise! Church, the word of God is the power of God (Romans 1:16). All of our hope is in our Lord Jesus. In His resurrection, just as with the Apostles, we find regeneration. 2 Corinthians 5:17 gives to you ‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come’. Be cautious though to remember, even as we are encouraged to rejoice in our possession of eternal hope, Peter cautions with the assurance that the keeping power of your Father God is in concert with your trust – which is here called ‘faith’. As you hold on ‘by faith’ to the Word of God, believing in Christ Jesus your cornerstone, you shall not be put to shame. You are chosen of God, ‘a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light’ (1 Peter 2:9). The genuineness of your faith – more precious than gold tested by fire – will result in praise, glory and honor at the coming of Jesus Christ! Hold on Church, you are being kept by the power of God! To our Father God, be all the glory.
